I grabbed this one at Newport Market in Bend, OR. The cover reminded me of the first time I drove through Weed, California. Definitely sparked my inner Oregonian to seek more information on this one. All I can say is this one is packed with hops!

First check out the specs:

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Ingredients

Malts: ???

Hops:???

Yeast & Water: ???

Specs:

  • 9% ABV
  • 100 IBU
  • ?? AA
  • ??º Lovibond

History

Leafer Madness Imperial Pale Ale was created during the great hop shortage of 2008, but there is no shortage of hops in this beer. Brewed with large amounts of 2-row malt, Munich malt, and multiple hop varieties, this 9% ABV, 100+ IBU hop monster quenches the thirst of those who crave the lupulin!

    Appearance:

Coppery clear body with a small 1/2 inch head that was not extremely sticky. Medium carbonation.

    Smell:

Citrus and lots of fruity hops. I didn't smell the alcohol at first, but once the hops stopped jumping around in my nose I definitely caught wind of the 9% of alcohol in this one.

    Taste:

Dry and a little like an amber with lots of hops. very bitter

    Mouthfeel:

Smooth with piney notes ending in bitterness

    Last Sip/Drinkability:

Very very bitter lingering taste. A little too bitter for me on this one. Not the part that I was expecting to be sticky. Just not quite the right mixture I was looking for.

    Final Rating:2.5
