Rogue provides two bottled chocolate stouts. This is the big brother of the pair weighing in at 9%ABV.   The bright red bottle can’t be missed as we found this one at our local whole foods.  The price is a little steep, but hey every once in a while it’s OK to ball out on a chocolate stout!

    Appearance:

This one is very dark brown, with a perfectly roasted head. Reminds me of a Sam Jack afro sprinkled in soul glow!

    Smell:

Smells really chocolatey with a good dump of malts. Pleasant, but a little strong.

    Taste:

    Mmmmmmm.... Chocolate and malty goodness!

    Mouthfeel:

The stout is smooth with a little carbonation.

    Last Sip/Drinkability:

I actually prefer the regular chocolate stout Rogue offers over this one. The double is just stronger which really takes away from the chocolate taste. I wouldn't turn this down, but instead of spending the bucks on one "Double" I would just get to regulars.

    Appearance:

Very dark, almost black with a toasted carmel colored head. It looks to have low carbonation and when moving the glass, legs (such as in wine) are light.

    Smell:

Malty, some alcohol and of course chocolate - like melted dark chocolate to be more exact.

    Taste:

Smooth, slightly creamy and a perfect chocolate taste that compliments the beer and is not overpowering. Very nice.

    Mouthfeel:

Carbonation like when drinking ginger ale (for some reason I did think this) but it was light, not heavy like many stouts.

    Last Sip/Drinkability:

Yes and yes...except for the cost. It is about $10 for a 22oz bottle. It is however a great winter beer, very tasty and quite easy to drink. I liked it.
