Unable to keep this one in the fridge any longer we had to give it a try! We have been eye-balling this one for a while now, but never made the move. After hearing some great things about this beer it is time to give it a taste! Plus the label is really cool with bales of hops in replace of the stones. That image pretty much sums up the beer perfectly, though. And that’s a GOOD thing!

So here are the details:

Style: American Double/Imperial IPA

Ingredients:

Malts: A blend of crystal, pale and carastan malts (???)

Hops: Centennial & Cascade

Yeast & Water: ???

Specs:

  • 8.75% ABV
  • ???º PLATO
  • 95 IBU
  • ??? AA
  • ???º Lovibond

HISTORY
Deschutes first released a batch back in 2006 and have now put out another batch using a different process for the hops, etc. The Deschutes employee who came up with the name also imagined Stone Henge with hop bales instead of stones.

  1. auz1111 06-21-2010 Recent Favorite:

    Appearance:

In a snifter the beer had a 1 inch head that seemed pretty frothy with an off-white color. The beer was an opaque dark amber color.

    Smell:

I could smell sweet fruits such as orange and pretty good hops.

    Taste:

Tasted of sweet citrus, lots of hops, and slight alcohol mix.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium bodied with a small bitter after taste that I thought would be much more distinguished.

    Last Sip/Drinkability:

Wow! This is now one of my favorites from Deschutes! A very hoppy beer, but not a huge bitter after taste. Almost seemed refreshing, but a little high on alcohol.

    Final Rating:4

  2. Cali 06-21-2010

    Appearance:

Opaque/Cloudy. Warm orange tinted color with ecru colored head.

    Smell:

    Sweet; Oranges

    Taste:

Oranges with a nice after taste that is not as bitter as some IPAs. Small hint of spice/cloves.

    Mouthfeel:

Little carbonation that was smooth and bubbly.

    Last Sip/Drinkability:

Not too thin! I very nice brew from Deschutes! One of my favorite ones they make for sure.
